Energy, how and where we use it, and how much it costs, is central to the competitiveness and resilience of our economy and to the livelihoods of millions of our citizens.
Recent events have highlighted the dangers of tying our country’s future success to the precarity of the international fossil fuel markets. We need to do all we can to help businesses reduce their reliance on oil and gas. It is essential to the long-term security of our country. The first step to solving a problem is often to measure it. It’s so important that we help businesses track and measure how they are using energy, in a transparent, comparable way. This information is vital, both to help reduce costs, but also for investors to accurately determine the resilience of a business. As Ireland’s national energy authority, at SEAI we support businesses in a number of ways, with direct grant support, training and national level research and insights. I really welcome CDP’s contribution, providing the tools for Irish businesses to evaluate their environmental performance, helping them put their business on a more secure, sustainable, and prosperous footing for years to come.
